Penwork's AI Generate feature is the fastest way to create handwritten study notes from scratch. Instead of typing everything yourself, you enter a topic name and the AI writes detailed, structured notes — complete with sections, questions, answers, and bullet points — already formatted for the handwriting renderer.
This guide explains how the feature works, how to get the best results, and how the AI formats the output.
On the Penwork home page, look for the tab row under the text input area. Click "✨ AI Generate" to switch to AI mode. A topic input field and a Generate button appear below the text area.
Enter the subject you want notes about. Be as specific as possible for better results. Examples: "Photosynthesis — light and dark reactions", "French Revolution causes and effects", "Laws of Thermodynamics", "The Great Gatsby themes". Vague topics like "Science" produce less focused notes.
Click the Generate button or press Enter. A skeleton loading animation shows while the AI is writing. This takes about 5–15 seconds. The AI is instructed to write at least 60 lines of detailed notes with multiple sections, questions, and answers.
The AI-generated notes appear in the main text editor. Scroll through to check the content. The AI formats notes with → section headings, Q-1 Q-2 questions, A: answers, 1) 2) 3) numbered points, and - bullet sub-notes. You can edit any part of the text before generating the PDF.
Choose your handwriting font in the Font & Size section — Kalam, Caveat, or Patrick Hand are the most realistic. Set ink colour to a dark navy (#1a1a2e) rather than pure black. Choose ruled page style for the most authentic notebook look. Add a page header with your name, subject, and date.
Click "Generate Pages" to preview your handwritten notes. Scroll through the pages — multi-page documents are automatically paginated. When satisfied, click "Download PDF" to save a print-ready A4 PDF with all your AI-generated handwritten notes.
Penwork uses special left-margin markers to format handwritten notes. The AI automatically uses these markers in its output:

You can also type these markers manually when editing the text — they work the same way whether typed by you or generated by AI.
Factual, educational topics produce the best results: science subjects (biology, chemistry, physics), history topics, geography, literature analysis, economics, maths concept explanations. Creative writing also works well. The more specific your prompt, the more focused and accurate the output.
The AI is instructed to write at least 60 lines of content, typically producing 3–6 handwritten pages depending on your font size and spacing settings. Each section has multiple questions with detailed multi-line answers.
Yes. Clear the text area and type your topic again. Each generation produces slightly different content. You can also edit the AI output directly in the text editor and re-generate specific sections by typing a new prompt.
The AI produces generally accurate educational content for common topics, but you should always review the notes for factual accuracy, especially for advanced or niche subjects. Treat the output as a starting point that you can edit and supplement.
Yes. After generating, you can freely edit the text in the editor — add your own notes, delete sections, or paste in additional content. You can also switch to the Type/Paste tab and mix your own text with AI-generated content.
