A complete guide to creating a convincingly handwritten assignment using Penwork — covering font choice, ink colour, images, tables, headers, and the PDF download. Free, no login, done in minutes.
Whether you need to submit a handwritten assignment, create realistic-looking study notes, or produce a printable journal page — Penwork gives you all the controls to make typed text look genuinely handwritten. The key is combining the right font, ink colour, page style, and optional elements like images and tables.
This guide covers the seven most impactful settings and why each one matters for realism.
Kalam, Caveat, and Patrick Hand are the top picks. They mimic the slight irregularities of real handwriting. Avoid Stylised fonts like Dancing Script for assignments — they look decorative rather than genuinely handwritten.
Pure black (#000000) looks digital. Set your ink colour to a dark navy-black like #1a1a2e or #2b2b3b. The slight warmth makes it look like a real ballpoint or fountain pen.
Ruled pages mimic exercise books. Set the line colour to a pale blue-grey (#ccd6f6 or similar) — lighter than standard notebook lines. This gives the impression of standard ruled paper without looking too digital.
Real assignments always have a header. Use Penwork's header feature to add your name, subject, and date at the top. Choose the Classic or Bracket header style for the most natural look.
For science, geography, or history assignments, embed relevant diagrams or maps using the Insert Image feature. Nothing says "written by a student" like a hand-drawn (or photographed) diagram next to the text.
If your assignment includes a comparison, timeline, or data set, insert a table. Enable row dividers and match the divider colour to your ink colour so the table looks like it was drawn by hand with a ruler.
Real handwriting is rarely perfectly sized. Set font size to about 18–20 and word spacing to 1–2 pixels above default. This gives the slight variability that makes it look less uniform and more natural.
Kalam is the most realistic for study notes and assignments. Caveat is a close second. Both have natural variation in letter height and spacing that mimics genuine handwriting. Patrick Hand is great for neater, more legible notes.
Avoid pure black. Use a dark navy-black like #1a1a2e, #2b2b3b, or #0a0a23. This mimics the slightly warm, non-uniform colour of pen ink on paper.
Use the Header section in Penwork's settings. Enter your name, subject, and date in the header text field and choose a header style. The header appears at the top of every page (or just the first page — your choice).
Yes. Use Insert Image to embed diagrams, screenshots, or photos. Use Insert Table to add structured data tables. Both are rendered inline in your chosen handwriting font and included in the PDF.
