How to Add a Table to Your Handwritten Assignment

Penwork lets you insert fully customisable tables โ€” with headers, data rows, and configurable dividers โ€” directly into your handwritten notes pages. Here's exactly how.

Tables are essential for science, economics, history, and any subject that requires structured data. With Penwork you can insert tables that look genuinely handwritten โ€” using your chosen font for headers and cell text, with customisable divider lines that match your ink colour. The result is a table that blends seamlessly into your handwritten assignment.

Step-by-step guide

01

Open Penwork and write your assignment content

Head to penwork.tech. Type or paste your assignment text in the editor, or use the AI generator to create notes automatically. Position your cursor at the point in the text where you want the table to appear.

02

Click the Insert Table button to add a table placeholder

Click the Insert Table (๐Ÿ“Š) button in the toolbar. A [table:tbl-xxx] placeholder is added at the cursor position and a table editor panel opens below the editor area.

03

Set your column headers

In the table panel, enter the column headers for your table โ€” for example: "Subject", "Date", "Marks". Each header becomes one column in the rendered table. You can add as many columns as you need.

04

Add data rows

Click "Add Row" to add data rows under the headers. Type the cell content for each column. Add as many rows as your data requires โ€” Penwork will automatically handle pagination if the table spans multiple pages.

05

Configure row and column dividers

Toggle "Show Row Divider" to draw horizontal lines between rows. Toggle "Show Column Divider" to draw vertical lines between columns. Use the Divider Colour picker to match your ink colour, and adjust the line width for thicker or thinner lines.

06

Preview and download your PDF

Click Preview to see the table in context with your handwritten text. The table is rendered in your chosen handwriting font and styled to blend naturally with the rest of your notes. When you are satisfied, click Download PDF for a print-ready A4 file.

๐Ÿ’ก Pro tips for handwritten tables

  • โœ“Match the divider colour to your ink colour (e.g., #1a1a2e) for a natural handwritten look
  • โœ“Enable row dividers only for cleaner, less cluttered tables โ€” column dividers are optional
  • โœ“Keep column headers short โ€” they use the same font size as the body text
  • โœ“For very wide tables, reduce the font size so all columns fit within the page margin
  • โœ“Move the [table:tbl-xxx] placeholder in the text to change where the table appears on the page

Frequently asked questions

How many columns and rows can a table have?

There is no hard limit on columns or rows. However, very wide tables with many columns may overflow the page margin โ€” reduce font size if this happens.

Can I have multiple tables in one document?

Yes. Each time you click Insert Table a new, independent table is created with its own headers, rows, and divider settings.

Can I change the font used in the table?

Yes. Tables use the same handwriting font as your main text. Changing the font in the settings applies to everything including tables.

Does the table carry over to the next page if it's too long?

Yes. Penwork automatically paginates long tables across multiple pages, keeping the header row visible at the top of each continued page if the repeat-headers option is enabled.
